fourth of july champagne cocktails {guest post by Alice Greene}

Want a really fun drink or drinks for the 4th of July?  It’s easy and affordable to celebrate the red, white and blue!  Buy some Korbel champagne or sparkling wine and get out your beautiful wine glasses.

First glass (blue) – pour in the bubbly and add a splash of Blue Curacao.

Second glass (red) – pour in the bubbly and add a splash of Cranberry Juice.

Third glass (white and BOOM!)  – pour in the bubbly and add a handful of Craisins.  Watch the craisins “explode” in your glass.  (They will actually jump up and down in the glass!)

Entertain your guests with  their choice of refreshing drinks!

shorty’s market

Downtown Lexington finally has what it has been waiting for—a grocery store.  If you haven’t yet been to Shorty’s Market, you definitely should.  The store is incredibly beautiful and offers plenty of healthy food options.  The deli carries lots of wonderful prepared foods (including Missy’s Pies!), so it is a great spot for downtown workers.  Soon, they will also be offering online grocery ordering and delivery.  How convenient!

I love tennis.  It’s challenging, but not overly so.  You can play hard, or make it a leisurely game.

I love the racquets (wooden vintage!).

I love the way the scoring sounds (Love is such a nice way to say you’ve lost).
I also, of course, love the clothing possibilities of tennis.  Layering a white cardigan or blazer over your tennis whites is so deliciously preppy.  Wimbledon is a great opportunity to see how designers interpret this traditional style.

I recently watched a video from Nike where they lovingly describe Roger Federer’s 2011 Wimbledon outfit.  I was fascinated by the quality of construction and by the elegant but supremely functional design.  I especially love how they incorporated the RF monogram onto the placket.  Click on the picture below to watch the video:

frozen refreshment

These Campari-citrus popsicles sound delicious!

If you’ve never tried it, Campari is considered a bitters, which is an alcohol that has been infused with herbs and has a bittersweet taste.  It’s especially good when mixed with any kind of citrus.

I might play with the recipe a little to reduce the sugar, but I can’t wait to try them!  Click here for the full recipe.
