first birthday

We recently celebrated a first birthday at our house with a big party. I wanted to share a few photos of our decorations from our day of fun!  We had so much fun filling our house with whimsical containers of candy, marshmallow suckers and lemon sticks!

We had so much fun selecting blue and yellow items from our nursery and other spots in the house to make a dramatic statement in our family room’s mantle and bookshelves.  We knew that this was where most of the festivities would take place (including lots of photo ops) and we wanted to create the perfect backdrop.

We used apothecary jars, highball and hurricane glasses to display some of our treats.

This adorable banner was an excellent etsy find.

The adorable (and yummy) cake was made by Brenda of The Sugar Forest, our go-to specialty cakes place.

Decorating for a birthday (or any themed party) can go far beyond balloons.  Play with the party color palette in your bookshelves or glass cabinets to emphasize your theme.  It makes such a difference in the space!

Happy planning!

PS.  Photos were all taken by the very talented, Mary Lawson of Honey Heart Photography.
