produce labels {decoded}

Did you know those little numbers on your produce are not just for checking yourself out at U-Scan?

They actually mean much more…they also reveal where and how the produce was grown.  Here’s a breakdown:

Five numbers starting with 9= Grown organically

Four numbers= Grown conventionally (a.k.a anything goes)

Five numbers starting with 8= Genetically modified

It’s important to note that the American Medical Association has just deemed the labeling of genetically modified foods unnecessary, so four numbers could mean that your food was not only treated with pesticides, but also may be a GMO.

Food for thought!
