local honor: Latitude Artist Community

Congratulations to Latitude Artist Community for winning the 2012 Governor’s Award in the Arts for Community Arts!

Founded in 2001, Latitude Artist Community serves as liaison for those with disabilities to contribute art and ideas to the community.  We are proud to have such an innovative and inspired organization established in our city.

The Governor’s Award pictured above, entitled “Art is the Tree of Life”, was designed by Louisville artist and jewelry maker Mark Needham.  Media used for the sculpture include aluminum, plastic, glass and resin.  The sculpture is backlit by an LED light, and also includes a removable brooch (clever!)

You can also watch Bruce Burris and other honorees accept their awards from Gov. Beshear on Wednesday, October 17th at 9pm on KET2.
