On this snowy bluegrass day, we are thrilled to launch our February feature of bluegrass lovebirds.
After all, who doesn’t love a good love story? I know that I certainly do. As a hopeless romantic, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories that have been sent my way over the last couple of weeks and I can’t wait to share them with you. We’ll be featuring several of our favorite bluegrass love stories in the coming days in honor of our favorite holiday on the 14th!
We are excited to kick-off the 2014 installment of this fun series with Jacob and Christie, whose amazing Kentucky winery wedding, I was lucky enough to attend.
Jacob & Christie Stork
Years Together: 1 ½ years
Years Married: 3 ½ months
Tell us a bit about yourself…
Jacob: I am 26 and grew up in the south where hard work and good manners are a way of life. I love my Harleys and riding motorcycles is a passion of mine. I grew up in a Christian home and my faith is very important to me and my family. I have the most beautiful wife. She is everything I could have ever wanted.
Christie: I recently turned 28 and am just over three months pregnant with our first child (we were shocked to say the least)! I spent many years in unhealthy relationships and when I finally made a personal decision to focus on myself and my relationship with God, I met Jacob. He was an answer to not only my own prayers, but my family’s as well, and is the best blessing God has ever bestowed on me.
How did you first meet? Was it “love at first sight” or were your “just friends”?
We actually met on a dating website! Never in a million years would either of us have thought we’d meet our soul mate online, but Jacob was new to town and Christie was looking for other venues to meet new people. Both were fairly tentative about where it would go, but once they finally met in person it was definitely love at first sight!
Where did you go on your first date?
Since Christie is a Lexington native, she volunteered to pick the restaurant. We ended up meeting at her favorite place to eat, BD’s Mongolian Grill.
Where did you share your first kiss?
Jacob: We kissed after watching a movie at Christie’s house and she walked me outside. I was sooo nervous. I think I said goodbye five times before I built the courage to kiss her. It was one of the best nights of my life, although she will tell you it was not a great kiss. I must have improved though, because she married me anyway.
Christie: We shared our first kiss at my old house after Jacob had come over to visit. I walked him out and after a few awkward goodbye’s he finally leaned in and went for it!
When did you know that he/she was “the one”?
Jacob: We shared a walk on my farm and held hands for the first time and had intimate conversations about life and love and it was like we were on a journey that was just beginning. At the end of the night she went home and I could not sleep that night. I laid in bed and said to myself, “I am going to marry this girl!”
Christie: I knew he was “the one” during our first date. After 5 hours of talking at the restaurant about everything under the sun, I came home and told my roommate I was going to marry him (which is ironic, because I almost cancelled our date and only went because I had committed to it and felt obligated to go)!!
Tell us about your engagement proposal…
Jacob: After a dinner date we came back to my farm. I told her I wanted to show her a motorcycle I was working on in one of the barns. We walked down there and I sat her down and got on one knee and surprised her with the most beautiful ring and asked her if she would spend the rest of her life with me….She said yes! I am pretty proud of that.
Christie: Jacob is a creature of habit, and when he does anything that strays from his normal routine, I can tell something is up. After a series of strange comments during a phone conversation one night, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he would propose the next day! The next day, we went to a Hibachi grill for dinner and then went back to his farm, where he dropped to one knee in Blackbarn Winery and proposed. He then surprised me with red roses and chilled champagne. Of course I said yes!
When and where were you married?
We were married on October 12, 2013 where we got engaged…Blackbarn Winery…which is located on the farm where he lived at the time. We had a beautiful outdoor wedding in front of gorgeous blue skies and thoroughbred horses, and then had an amazing reception in the Blackbarn Winery itself.
My partner’s best quality is…
Jacob: She is my rock. I can always count on her to be there no matter what I am going through at work or even in our relationship. I know that if I start what I’m building with her at the core it’s going to withstand the elements.
Christie: His ability to always maintain an extraordinary level of respect, patience, and calm in any and all situations. This definitely motivates me to better myself in that way (still a work in progress) and makes him such a great role model, leader, and partner. He’s a saint!
The thing about my partner that drives me crazy is…
Jacob: She is a crazy bed hog. It seems like she is actually chasing me around our king sized bed!
Christie: He bites his fork when he eats….It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me!
My number one piece of advice about love is…
Jacob: The Bible says that love is God’s greatest gift to us. Love knows no bounds. Love is the strongest bond and it may be repressed and forgotten but it can never be broken!
Christie: Never fail to remember the definition of love as defined by God in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Feelings may come and go, but love is a conscious and daily decision to act a certain way towards another. If you can put your feelings aside and always exemplify the characteristics of love that are laid out by God, you will be one of the few in this world that will go the distance…
So fun, right? Thanks, Jacob and Christie for sharing your story with us.
Stayed tuned for upcoming bluegrass lovebirds.
To true love.
