Tell us a bit about yourselves…
A California city girl fell for a Kentucky country boy, and the rest is history!! After going through infertility, we are blessed to now have a daughter and two sons, who keep us busy. Mark works as an electrical engineer and enjoys homebrewing beer. Kristy worked as a teacher and free-lance writer before becoming a full-time mom. She loves dancing with the Lexington Irish Dancers.
How did you first meet? Was it “love at first sight” or were your “just friends”?
We met online on a website called CatholicMatch.com. At the time, Kristy lived in California while Mark resided in Lexington. We became very good friends and met in person for the first time in October 2002.
Where did you go on your first date?
In Sacramento, we went to Hard Rock Cafe. In Lexington, we went to Joe Bologna’s.
Where did you share your first kiss?
New Year’s Eve at Mark’s apartment in 2002
When did you know that he/she was “the one”?
Kristy: About a year into dating, I had a very strong inkling he was THE ONE. But I was still living in California and he in Kentucky. In 2004, I packed my Jetta and drove cross country to move to Lexington near Mark’s apartment. After finally seeing each other every day, I knew within a few months. It just took Mark a little longer to get the ring. 🙂
Tell us about your engagement proposal…
We were in a small chapel praying together. Mark completely surprised Kristy by getting down on one knee.
When and where were you married?
January 29, 2006 at St. Mary’s in Sacramento. We had a rare mild summer day! So many of our friends and family from around the country came to celebrate with us.
He Said/She Said...
My partner’s best quality is…
Kristy: He puts others before himself, with such a servant’s heart.
Mark: Kristy’s generosity and thoughtfulness towards others. Whether it’s a small gift, a card, or just a quick text, she seeks to bring a little joy to others’ lives, especially when they are going through a rough time.
The thing about my partner that drives me crazy is…
Kristy: He is so detail oriented like any good engineer. I tend towards creativity and spontaneity. So these aspects clash 🙂
Mark: Kristy has a tendency to fret about things completely out of her control. I’m a “tackle what you can control, pray for what you cannot, and move on” type of guy.
My number one piece of advice about love is..
Kristy: Love isn’t always found in flowers, chocolate, or grandiose adventures. So often, love is found and sustained in the little trials and tribulations of life.
Mark: Love is a daily, conscious, and selfless decision to serve another and place her needs about your own. It’s more often found in the mundane than in the memorable events of life.
