fabulously festive holidays

The holidays are upon us!  Christmas is just days away and my house is full of festive sights and smells of the season.  Here are a few of my favorite holiday things:

Entertaining.  So appreciative of my friend Elizabeth at Cutting Board Catering for her delicious bite-size hors d’oeuvres at my annual Christmas party.

halloween and beyond

Wow!  The Fall has flown by and I’ve been remiss at sharing what I’ve been up two over the past few weeks.  Our family thoroughly enjoyed Halloween and Thanksgiving and everything in between.  The beautiful Bluegrass weather has been many outdoor festivities possible!  Here’s a photo recap of our last several weeks!

happy, happy halloween

The pumpkins are carved, the apple cider is bought, the candy is stocked—we are ready to celebrate Halloween!

All of this prepping makes me reflect on Halloween’s past as we get ready for Trick-or-treat.

summer recap

How is it that Labor Day has come and gone?  While we may technically still have a few weeks left, in my mind, summer has concluded.  It has been a busy end of the season for my family.  Here’s what we’ve been up to:

transitional style

I am a fall girl.  Perhaps it is a zodiac thing (my birthday is in October), but I absolutely love the autumn months.  I love all cliché fall things from pumpkin-flavored treats to equestrian boots.

Here’s the rub – by this point in the summer, I am completely done with my summer wardrobe!  By the first of August I am eager to transition away from my nautical inspired looks and bright Lily Pulitzer frocks.  Instead, I am ready for new color palettes that evoke fall, but are cool and breezy enough for hot late summer days.  My absolute favorite colors for this time of year are navy, pumpkin and cream.

what’s for dinner?

Summer is such a fun time to try new recipes!  With the longer days we are eating dinner later, leaving extra time to cook delicious meals.  I am currently following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet to try to calm down some of my autoimmune inflammation issues, which has provided an additional cooking challenge (I already eat gluten free).  Here are some of the winning dishes from our house:

After 45 days of eating this food plan, I have noticed significant improvement in my inflammation.  Plus, I like the challenge of cooking with constraints!

Which of these would you try?  Any of your favorite to share?

summer updates

It has been a busy summer at our house!  It is hard to believe that we have almost completed the month of June and a whole month has flown by since my last posts.  Here are some photos to recap what we’ve been up to these last few weeks with our family:

An amazing family trip to Hilton Head Island.

A lovely marker dedication service for my father.  Friends and family from all over the country came to celebrate and remember an amazing man.

Lots and lots of swimming.  It’s been hot!  Plus, my little guy is learning to swim and wants to spend all of his time in the water.

Teaching at the Carnegie Center.  How cute is the reading room in Triangle Park?!?  I love those little kiddos!

Celebrating my amazing husband on Father’s Day.

All of this and some home renovations (pictures coming) and living in lots of dust and disorder.  (Please tell me it will all be worth it!)

Hope you are enjoying your summer!

gowns, gowns, gowns

I absolutely love attending charity functions, and am lucky to be able to do so several times a year.  I got to attend two functions in the last month and I loved getting to dress up.  I’m sharing some photos below.  Can you tell that I love all things black?
