easter recap

Easter has always been a favorite holiday of mine.  I have enjoyed the soft and feminine pastel colors since I was a little girl.  Plus, it was the first big holiday after the rush of Christmas (and following a dark and gloomy winter) to bring family back together.

I was thrilled to be able to share so many fun holiday traditions with my five year old this year.  Here’s a little recap of our Easter weekend:

Saturday morning was lovely for egg hunting, even if it was a bit chilly in the shade.  Some coats for the three of us made for a nice morning outside.

At my house, my Easter decorating usually starts with a flower arrangement.  There is nothing that makes me feel more like spring than bringing in fresh flowers in my kitchen and dining room.  Here are a few of my other favorite ways to decorate for Easter:

bluegrass lovebirds: greg + jessica

Here we are at my favorite time of year on Bluegrass Threads: the Bluegrass Lovebirds series!  Each year in honor of Valentine’s Day (and to combat these gloomy gray days), we feature couples that met, married or moved to the bluegrass area.  A huge thank you to all of the couples who nominated themselves or friends to participate!

I have had the privilege of knowing the first of our 2016 Lovebirds for many years.  They are both such amazing people and graciously contribute their time and talents to worthy local and regional causes.  Introducing…

These cold January days have been the perfect excuse to pull out my crockpot.  Some of my favorite comfort foods can be prepared in the slow cooker and you can’t beat the “dump it and leave it” method when you are juggling a busy schedule.

holiday bites

I hosted our annual holiday open house this past weekend and I thought I’d share a few of my favorite holiday bite-size hors d’oeuvres.  My philosophy is to serve just 4 or 5 dishes and have plenty of them to go around!  Huge thank you to Elizabeth with Cutting Board Catering for helping out with the food.  While I can’t really share the caterer’s recipes, I hope that these holiday bites will serve as inspiration for your upcoming gatherings.

Pesto Potato Frittata

Most people think of frittatas for breakfast for lunch, but they are a hearty and substantial appetizer.  Bonus: They can be served room temperature.  While any frittata ingredients will do, this pesto and potato version is a crowd pleaser and vegetarian-friendly.

christmas spirits

For your upcoming holiday events, I’m sharing my two favorite holiday cocktails.  Perfect for one or for a crowd!

The White Christmas

I love this cocktail, as it is made by the pitcher which makes it easy to serve for a party.  The delicious peach and rosemary flavors are perfect for the season, but also unexpected.  Find the recipe here.

halloween recap

Hope you and your family enjoyed a fun Halloween weekend!

My family reveled in the crisp, fall air and sweet time with family and friends.  My little guy was an astronaut for the second year in a row, which I find totally adorable.  I am space-OBSESSED and possess a freakish knowledge of early space program trivia, so I really do get such a kick out of his costume selections.
