what’s cookin’

My little guy and I both love to cook.  It’s probably our favorite activity to do together.  All of the time together spent chopping, peeling and stirring over the stove allow us time to chat about our day.  Here are a few of our favorite things to make these days:

5 years

Bluegrass THREADS is thrilled to be celebrating 5 years!  Five years feels momentous—we’ve made it!

This blog has been a source of personal inspiration and growth during the first five years of my son’s life, the loss of my father, job transitions, big moves and many of the other changes (good and bad) over this half decade.

To celebrate and commemorate this milestone, I want to highlight these top 5s—the most read and shared stories of the past 5 years:

easter recap

Easter has always been a favorite holiday of mine.  I have enjoyed the soft and feminine pastel colors since I was a little girl.  Plus, it was the first big holiday after the rush of Christmas (and following a dark and gloomy winter) to bring family back together.

I was thrilled to be able to share so many fun holiday traditions with my five year old this year.  Here’s a little recap of our Easter weekend:

Saturday morning was lovely for egg hunting, even if it was a bit chilly in the shade.  Some coats for the three of us made for a nice morning outside.

halloween recap

Hope you and your family enjoyed a fun Halloween weekend!

My family reveled in the crisp, fall air and sweet time with family and friends.  My little guy was an astronaut for the second year in a row, which I find totally adorable.  I am space-OBSESSED and possess a freakish knowledge of early space program trivia, so I really do get such a kick out of his costume selections.

Halloween is Saturday!  I can’t wait to see all of the adorable trick-or-treaters!  My little guy is going as an astronaut (2nd year in a row—new costume) and who knows what his dad and I will be commanded to be.  Here are some photos from last year’s trick-or-treating (during which it started to snow!):

flavors of fall

Sorry for the radio silence!  Since my little guy turned 5, we have been battling ear infections, which resulted in ear tubes round 2 and an adenoidectomy.  We are still recouping at our house, but I thought I’d share a few of our favorite fall dishes.  We’ve been busy baking here, since Gabriel isn’t ready to get out and about quite yet:

  • Nothing can beat the simplicity of oatmeal raisin cookies.  These are the best (so soft and chewy) and fill your house with a glorious aroma as they bake.

  • I love pecan recipes, especially during this season.  This kale and pecan salad would be the perfect side to serve for a fall dinner.

  • Nothing is more comforting than a fall soup.  This butternut squash is a house favorite for our family for a lunch or a festive dinner starter.

  • Everyone needs a go-to game day dish.  These wings are sure to please even the most upscale of crowds.
