halloween recap

Hope you and your family enjoyed a fun Halloween weekend!

My family reveled in the crisp, fall air and sweet time with family and friends.  My little guy was an astronaut for the second year in a row, which I find totally adorable.  I am space-OBSESSED and possess a freakish knowledge of early space program trivia, so I really do get such a kick out of his costume selections.

Here we are this year, quite the costumed-trio:

4th of july recap

Here’s a little photo recap of our fun 4th of July:

A little family photo op on the porch.

The milder temps made it a perfect day to be outside, although we did skip the pool.  The park for a friend’s birthday party was a great alternative.

4thofjuly3

We spent the day hanging out at the park and playing with friends and family.  So much fun!

4thofjuly5This little guy got to enjoy fireworks for the first time this year.  He was decked out in his pjs and his headphones (just in case!) for the show at our neighborhood park.  He loved them so much that we headed downtown to catch the city’s show.

Hope you enjoyed a fabulous 4th!

derby recap

I hope that your Derby Day was fantastic!  My family loves to celebrate the Derby—with beautiful hats, good food, silly wagers and laid-back fun.  In fact, we are such fans of the days festivities that our family dog is named KY Derby (she goes by Derby, for short).

We managed to snap a couple of photos to commemorate the fun this year, including one with my son and I posing with the Derby stick pony he made.  I was excited for an excuse to wear my new Lilly for Target dress.  (Really—I’m obsessed with these Lilly prints!)  My oversized Lands End tote was full of wine and bourbon as we headed out the door to our party.

Before the race, we enjoyed sipping mint juleps and we followed the face festivities with a homey, “Kentucky dinner” of ham, fruit salad with honey yogurt sauce, hashbrown casserole, asparagus, and corn pudding.  We topped it all off with a delicious Eton Mess parfait for dessert.  Yum!

It was fun to kick-back and enjoy our family’s company and our delicious feast.  While its fun to be at the excitement of the track, in my book, you can’t beat the peaceful atmosphere of a party at home.

How did you spend your Derby?

it’s not goodbye

It is hard to believe that Bluegrass Threads has been writing about stylish bluegrass living for the past four years (April 1, 2011 seems so long ago).  Certainly a driving force and integral part of those four years has been the breathtaking images taken by blog co-founder, Diana.  Her aesthetic vision has always been a guiding force of Bluegrass Threads and it has been my pleasure to work with her over the past four years (and eight fabulous years of friendship).

I’m sad to announce that she finds herself moving away from the bluegrass to the heart of Texas.  Luckily, this farewell is not the end, Diana will be a guest contributor, as her schedule allows, and her images past and future will grace our posts.

Lots of love, dear Diana.  The bluegrass will always be your home.
